This is being staged to mark the 20th anniversary of the disappearance of the famous writer who was a native of Sanremo. The centerpiece of the exhibition are photographs donated by the Calvino family to the civic library of Sanremo, together with the many volumes which make up the family library of Italo Calvino’s parents. The title captures the nature of the subject matter of the exhibition perfectly. The Roots, the strong ties between the family of the writer and the area in which he grew up. Naturally enough there is also space given over to the natural world which always provided the background to Calvino’s literary works.

After completing a tour of the exhibition you are invited to view the documentary “L’ISOLA DI CALVINO” by Roberto Giannarelli, produced by Fabulafilm in collaboration with RAI. In addition there is a guided tour ,”passeggiate calviniane”, which traces the life and writings of Calvino through the streets of Sanremo. The tour is available every Saturday (from 19th November till 14th January and on Monday 26th December) Point of departure is the exhibition site at 15.00.
