For 73 years the city of Menton on the Cote d’Azur has organized a festival, which celebrates the pre-Lent carnival, round the theme of “Festa del Limone”. This festival involves the preparation of a stupendous garden containing fantastic citrus fruit sculptures and floral compositions (located in the’Bioves gardens,opening hours mon-fri 09.00/18.00, Sat and Sun, 09.00/19.00, Thursdays 19th and 26th Feb.09.00/22.00). Fancy dress shows by day and night and amazing water borne firework shows all add to the fun.
For 2006 the chosen theme is ‘Menton invites the Carnivals of all the world’. The guest of honour is Brazil, in homage to a country with some of the most colourful and rhythmic carnivals in the world. There will be delegations and representatives present from the most important carnivals from every corner of the world.
The important dates are 3 Sundays in February (12th,19th 26th ). Beginning at 14.00 and finishing at 16.30 there will be the magnificent parade of the beautifully decorated floral carts along the length of la Promenade du Soleil, right on the seafront. For all nighthawks something not to be missed takes place on the evening of Thursday 16th February 2006.
