Nice, February 2007. For over a century, the Nice Carnival has been the most important winter event of the French Riviera; three weeks of parades, dancing shows, flower fights, it’s all about the celebration of this event. During the 2007 edition, the main protagonist will be King Carnival, this year the theme will be the “Baraonda”.
It is all starting on Friday 16th Feb., with the arrival of Her Majesty Carnival, the first Flower Fight happening on Sat. 17th Feb., at 2.30 pm and later on, at 9pm, a parade of carnival masks, wagons and bands.
On Sun. 18th Feb., at 2.30pm, Carnival Parade, Tue. 20th feb. at 9pm, night time parade and Wed 21st Feb. at 2.30pm Flower Fight.
Sat. 24th Feb. at 2.30pm Flower Fight, while in the evening, at 9pm wagon parade. On Sun. 25th Feb. at 2.30pm Carnival Parade along the Promenade.
Tue 27th Feb. at 9pm, Night Parade, Wed. 28th Feb. at 2.30pm Flower Fight. Saturday 3rd March at 2.30pm Flower Fight and at 9pm Night Parade, along the Promenade. Gran finale on Sun. 4th March at 2.30 with the Great Carnival Parade and at 9pm the Final Parade for the ashing of King Carnival, including fireworks.
The whole town celebrates troughout the carnival period, the streets fill up with people in disguise who just want to have fun. Most of the events and exhibitions take place at the l’espace Massenà, where many bands play, often wearing the weirdest clothes. Another well known place for the Nice Carnival is the notoriousPromenade des Anglais, where the wagon parade usually takes place. It is a route for everyone who wants to admire the huge and funny wagons and participate in the flower fights. All of this “Baraonda” will be the 2007 Nice Carnival !
