The Western Liguria cycle path, known today as Cycling Riviera – Parco Costiero Riviera dei Fiori, has won the Italian Green Road Award 2025, the Italian Oscar of cycle tourism. The award recognizes greenways that successfully combine route quality, services, and a focus on slow tourism.
A cycle route born on the old railway tracks
The Cycling Riviera runs for 33 km from Ospedaletti to Imperia along the decommissioned route of the old Genoa-Ventimiglia coastal railway. It is a flat cycle path, suitable for families, cycle tourists, and anyone wanting to ride safely away from traffic.
Why it convinced the jury
Among the winning elements were the maintenance of the route, the signage, the support services, and the ability to enhance the landscape. The cycle path is not just infrastructure: it is also a practical way to experience the Riviera at a slower, more accessible, and more sustainable pace.
One more reason to choose Sanremo
For those visiting Sanremo, this award confirms the value of the cycle path as an experience not to be missed. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the area and integrates perfectly with a day dedicated to the sea, the city center, and walks along the seafront.

A look ahead
The Green Road Award is already looking toward the next event: the 2026 awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Sanremo, as a tribute to the Cycling Riviera that won the previous edition. This is a strong signal for the city and for all slow tourism in the Riviera dei Fiori.
The cycle path remains one of the best ways to discover Sanremo: easy to ride, scenic, suitable for all ages, and perfect for an outdoor experience that combines sport, the sea, and the landscape.
